Save Virginia Bush
The Issue
This precious green space, home to immense diversity of wildlife and indigenous flora, has long been a place retreat and recreation for the residents of Durban.
The Durban North Conservancy and Envirofixers and residents Kwa Zulu Natal are shocked that developers seek to destroy our city’s beloved Virginia Bush for narrow private gain. As a ‘Proclaimed Nature Reserve’ (Gazetted 2018), Virginia Bush is legally protected from any commercial activities.
eThekwini and KZN EDTEA are not justified in continued correspondence with the developer, let alone considering decimating the nature reserve to build multi-story apartments, 230 single dwellings, and many other structures that will convert this public nature reserve into an elite gated community for a privileged few.
The fact that Minister Creecy herself is corresponding with the developer raises suspicion of political involvement. We wish to raise the alarm for all South Africans— if this goes ahead, it sets a precedent for the private embezzlement and destruction of ALL our green spaces. What’s next? Krantskloof Nature Reserve, Imfolozi, Kruger National Park?
Add your voice to express your disgust at profiteering at the expense of our national heritage. Sign this petition to say NO to this development and protect this space for future generations, and all its natural inhabitants.
