SAVE Village Street PARK (Salford's smallest)

SAVE Village Street PARK (Salford's smallest)
The Issue
Reject the current proposal (submitted by "Walsingham Planning") to build houses on the space.
This is a public space, and therefore the council (and the owners of the land) have not only neglected it's responsibility to maintain it, they are now allowing a private developer to acquire the land and build upon it.
We are all well aware of the ongoing housing crisis, however it is unlikely these houses will be neither social or affordable homes for local people. Furthermore, the City Council itself has designated the space as "the only park within the conservation area".
The City Council has, for several years FAILED to maintain the upkeep of this space, it has failed to ensure the gate is locked at night, and as a result it has often been targeted for vandalism and occasional anti-social behaviour.
In it's own review Salford City Council concluded "There are no green spaces officially open to the public except for the small park at Village Street".
"It is also important that Salford City Council and partner agencies seek to identify funding to ensure that the one small park at Village Street is maintained to its current standard." - Cliff Conservation Area Appraisal 2008 (Salford City Council).
This new development will destroy the space, making way for a commercial developer to build on a vital and unique environment in an otherwise already densely built-up area. We need more green space, not less.
