Word is definitely getting out there more and more, as we are approaching a record 1200 signatures for our petition. Many thanks to all of you for spreading the word!
Things are hotting up on many fronts. In the next few weeks we expect to hear the announcement of the name of the winner of the architectural competition. It will have to be a brave contestant (and thick skinned!) to face so much opposition before even going for planning!
What is so disconcerting is the fact there is still so much vagueness in relation to the real intentions of the Holocaust Foundation, the promoters of this Memorial and Learning Centre.
Despite endless questioning, we still do not know the real factual answers to several fundamental questions: whether the Learning Centre can and will be built underground in VTG, hard up against a river wall and in a flood zone; what the security arrangements might be - particularly given the recent horrendous episode of terrorism a few paces away; what the traffic management intentions are, to allow visitors to be delivered and collected from this very crowded site; how many visitors are really anticipated...
Why the organisers still persist in the stubborn pursuit of this site for their aims is a mystery to many of us, as our many arguments in favour of finding an alternative site are rational and convincing for so many.
At the beginning of our campaign, we had also been told that our concerns would be seriously considered, as it would be bad "karma" to start amongst huge controversy a project focused on bringing people together... Sadly the decision makers involved in this project- and Sir Peter Bazelgette in particular - appear impervious to the voices of thousands of Londoners who do not agree with them. Is this an example of democracy we want to promote next to the Houses of Parliament?
