Save Vaquitas - Enforce Net Fishing Laws

The Issue

The vaquita is the rarest marine mammal in the world and is on the edge of extinction. In fact, it's estimated that only around 10 individuals are remaining.  The smallest living species of cetacean is only found in the northern gulf of California and Mexico.  They are known for their distinctive dark rings around their eyes, unique facial structure, sharply downturned mouth, and a distinct bump on their forehead.  Like many other cetaceans, vaquitas are highly social animals and rely on complex communication systems to interact with each other.  They are known to produce a variety of clicks and whistles to communicate with other individuals.  They also use body language and physical contact to communicate with each other. The vaquita is critically endangered and at high risk of extinction due to several factors.  Their primary threat is habitat loss and their habitat is being damaged and destroyed by human activity.  The vaquita could bounce back if we start enforcing net fishing bans.
