SAVE VALLEY ARTIST, CREATIVES, MICRO BUSINESSES, VENDORS, AND ARTHOP IN DOWNTOWN FRESNO

The Issue

KEEP ARTHOP IN THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE!!!

Friday morning, July 19, at 11:30am at Kern Plaza on the corner of Fulton & Kern St in Downtown Fresno, District 3 Council Member Miguel Arias, Fresno Police, Fresno Code Enforcement, and other organizations announced a temporary pause in street vendor activity and permitted events outdoors along Fulton Street during Art Hop on Thursday, August 1.

The driving concern is public safety, meaning a combination of protection from the heat and the ability of public agencies to patrol and manage the area of this community event.

Senate Bill 946 approved by the Governor of Califonia on September 17th, 2018 states:

(1) Sidewalk vending provides important entrepreneurship and economic development opportunities to low-income and immigrant communities.

(2) Sidewalk vending increases access to desired goods, such as culturally significant food and merchandise.

(3) Sidewalk vending contributes to a safe and dynamic public space.

(4) The safety and welfare of the general public is promoted by encouraging local authorities to support and properly regulate sidewalk vending.

This announcement by Council Member Arias was wrong and immoral. This decision by Arias' office will affect so many artists, micro-businesses/vendors, musicians, families, downtown brick and mortars, and most of all the entire Arthop community that loves to enjoy what Downtown Fresno has to offer every 1st Thursday.

We at The Alley in the Valley, Bad Kids Club, MAS Fresno, and Fresno Street Eats along with the people of the Valley take a stance against the ban on outdoor vending and we will be outside in support of all the hardworking Valley residents who grind every day to keep this city alive.

We must show the city that the people care about Arthop and all it has to offer. No decisions should be made for the people, without the people. The entire future of Arthop is in jeopardy because of power, control, money, and lack of care for the future of Downtown and the people in it.

KEEP ARTHOP IN THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE AND WE WILL BE OUTSIDE AUGUST 1ST!!!

We thank you for taking the time to read and sign this petition against the 'Outdoor Arthop Ban on August 1st in Downtown Fresno.'

Also if you can please join us to make a public comment 9AM Thursday for Fresno's City Council Meeting at City Hall, 2600 Fresno Street. You can also join online via Zoom.
