PETITION:  St. Croix County has over 100 years history with University Extension for programming and staff that benefits county residents, including our youth, and business development.

St. Croix County Board of Supervisors have removed all funding from their 2025 Budget for University of Wisconsin Extension services....except enough to cover the very basics of the 4H program. The cuts would eliminate programs and staff for crops and soils and agriculture educators, health and well being programs, birth-to-3 prenatal education, organization and business development expertise, and direct support for our 4H programs.

UW Agriculture Extension staff perform essential work to protect, preserve, and improve water quality in St. Croix County. For example, UW Agriculture Extension staff work with the Dry Run Creek Farmer-Led Conservation Council in the Willow River watershed to implement agricultural land use practices that effectively reduce the runoff of sediments and excess nutrients into the Willow River. This benefits us all. We all want and need clean water.

Extension staff works hand-in-hand with farmers and growers including but not limited to livestock, row crops, forage, fruit, vegetable, and  specialty flower operations/producers. Community supported agriculture (CSAs), farm market producers, and local growers rely on the expertise of university extension staff in St. Croix County and the network of extension services in our state.

One of the largest programs is the 4H program - over 600 strong in St. Croix County.  While the Community Development Committee left enough funding to hire a 4H coordinator - they cut funding for all other UW Extension positions and wouldn't even provide an administrative staff person dedicated to 4H.
