Save UQ Dayboro Veterinary Clinic

The issue

The University of Queensland is proposing to close its Dayboro Veterinary Clinic permanently on 23 February 2022 (now extended to June 2022) for management and financial reasons.  The clinic will be consolidated into the Gatton campus which currently only services within a 70km radius of Gatton.  Students who previously attended the Dayboro Clinic for practical training will now have a 3-4 hour round trip to attend the Gatton campus.

The Dayboro Vet Clinic has serviced the Moreton Bay Region for 34 years and in 2013, $2.4m was invested in building a brand new small and large animal surgery. The clinic operates 24 hours a day, seven day a week providing a specialist service to surrounding dairy and beef farms. It provides in-house as well as ambulatory veterinary services which are critical when large animals are involved.  Being a university level teaching clinic offering large animal clinical teaching experience, the clinic provides farmers and the community access to a cutting edge service.

The Dayboro Vet Clinic is a the only service of its kind available to farmers and the larger community in the region. The farmers and the community need them.
