Save Uptown Hull House's historic Theatre
Why this petition matters
In only 60 seconds to sign this petition, you can help SAVE the historic Hull House Theater in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood and preserve a legacy.
This landmark -- the last of the neighborhood theaters that created the vibrant Chicago Off Loop Theatre scene in the 1960’s -- is in jeopardy of demolition. A direct legacy of Jane Addams’ groundbreaking social justice work and the arts, the theater launched the careers of a generation of Chicago greats that including Organic Theatre’s Stuart Gordon, Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds), David Mamet (Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "Glengarry Glen Ross), Dennis Franz (NYPD Blue), and Meshach Taylor (Designing Women) and later Jackie Taylor’s Black Ensemble Theater. Noted architect Crombie Taylor and theater director Bob Sickinger created this landmark theater, described as “the most acoustically perfect theater in Chicago.”
