The Issue

Having been involved in persistent endeavors since 2018 to breathe new life into Transfiguration Church at 929 Sycamore St., Buffalo, NY, I am writing to advocate for the preservation of our cherished local landmark. The potential demolition of this historic building is not only unnecessary, but it also represents a significant cultural loss to our community.

I have poured my heart and resources into creating a revitalization plan that envisions transforming this historic church into an apartment complex. These plans, complete with architectural drawings are the begining of a solution to preserve and repurpose the building. The proposed stabilization would cost $750,000, which is considerably less than the $1 million needed for its demolition.

The church, with its architectural grandeur and historical significance, stands as a testament to our heritage and should be preserved for future generations. Buffalo's unique character is defined by its historical structures, and losing such an iconic landmark would be a cultural and economic setback.

Revitalizing Transfiguration Church will not only preserve our history but also promote community development, providing housing opportunities and boosting local employment during the restoration phase. This project offers significant potential to enhance the urban landscape and contribute positively to our neighborhood's identity.

I urge our community and city leaders to recognize the importance of preserving Transfiguration Church and consider supporting the stabilization plan. Your support can help transform a potential demolition site into a vibrant community asset.

Save our history, save our future – sign this petition to show your support for preserving Transfiguration Church. Let’s come together to protect our shared heritage and create a brighter future for Buffalo.
