The Issue

UNL is making budget cuts. One of those budget cuts includes the Textile, Merchandising and Fashion Design program through the College of Education and Human Sciences. TMFD incorporates science, creativity, and history in the fashion industry to help prepare students for careers in the global retail industry.

Here are some testimonies from current TMFD students:

Jaycie Zach: “As a transfer student I found a great community within the TMFD department among people who share the same passion for all facets of TMFD.”

Jaquelyn Z.: “The TMFD department has expanded my knowledge on the variety of careers in the fashion industry. Being here has impacted my view on textiles in the world and that is something that should be shared.”

Deja’nae Smith: “I think people often forget how important textiles are. You are wearing them right now, the shoes you wear, the shirt you just bought, those are products of the textile industry.”

Gracelyn Wingett: “As a textile science major, there are very limited options for universities with my major. Without the UNL TMFD department, I would have had to go to a school multiple states away to get a comparable education.”

By signing this petition, you will help us to change the proposed budget and keep TMFD at UNL.
