SAVE TIANGUIS FARMERS MARKET

The Issue

The city of Santa Ana is excessively billing our Certified Farmers Market. We are an essential place of business where Farmers, Micro business stands and food booths gather for the purpose of the community. We find it very wrong that we have to pay excessive fees to simply operate in the city of Santa Ana every Sunday.

We feel as if we’re being pushed out by this type of tactic. Could it be true that gentrification is in full force in downtown Santa Ana?

We’re also a nonprofit 501(c)(3) -Tianguis Market Foundation- we’ve helped over 800 vendors obtain proper permits and we help victimized Street Vendors. We’ve been on KTLA NEWS, FOX NEWS, and UNIVISION 34

We’ve been DENIED a city grant from the Downtown District. We’ve applied for a city Council sponsorship and which we haven’t heard back…

We’re the ONLY Farmers Market in Santa Ana and we feel as the city can do more for us or at least help cover Street barricades and restrooms since the community is being gathered in a positive way.

For example: we pay $2,240 per month to simply have street barricades so our vendors are safe on the street and $900 for public restrooms! It cost $3,976 to operate monthly! And that’s that we only operate on Sundays…

The right thing for the city to do is to sponsor us as a community-based event for the purpose of helping the community and cover these excessive fees.
