The Issue
DEMAND that Orange County (NC) Animal Control promptly release and return to his rightful owner the 3 y.o. pony known as “Pippin” and without cost to his owner!
DEMAND that 3rd parties responsible for the criminal acts that have wrongly precipitated legal action against this pony’s owner be made public and prosecuted!
DEMAND that Orange County (NC) Animal Control cease to cooperate with 3rd parties responsible for illegal acts aimed at the taking of this farm from its rightful owners!
DEMAND that the laws of NC be upheld and implemented as intended; or amended as needed, to protect citizens’ rights to own land and to farm -- without threat from urban centers and complicit development interests!
DEMAND punishment to the fullest extent of the law for those who may have taken or may continue to take, directly or indirectly, private land for continued growth and profit!
HISTORY:
“Pippin” was impounded by Orange County (NC) Animal Control on May 26, 2015 when a 3rd party, unknown to his owner, released him from his owner’s farm in southern Orange County, NC.
This stemmed from a frivolous court order issued on April 9 in which a complicit judge denied admission of a defense by his owner – including Sheriff Dept. records and eyewitness testimony which would have proven that vandalism was responsible for such releases – and not Pippin’s owner or anyone known to his owner.
Instead, the judge ordered impoundment and disposal of the farmer’s entire herd should others be released in the future. In turn, this guaranteed that such wrongful, criminal acts would continue.
Beginning in April 2014, a rash of periodic releases of the farm’s animals began – the majority of which occurred late at night – and led officials of neighboring Carrboro to compel Animal Control to sue the farmer claiming “public nuisance” against the farm owner.
This, even though there is no applicable law!
Even though the owner has violated no laws!
Even though Animal Control staffs have acknowledged having disregarded its own ordinances and procedures!
Even though experts testified that security measures implemented by the farm owner far exceeded industry standards!
In short, the “taking” of this pony foal appears another tactic by development interests and complicit officials to illegally “take” another farm for urban development uses. Note: For decades Carrboro’s leaders have scammed innumerable farmers out of their land..
Why now? Carrboro needs this farmer’s land and its resources in order to grow! Also, its leadership is aware that, under NC law, once a livestock farm no longer raises animals, it loses its NC agriculture certification; after which the land can be annexed by neighboring towns. And this is the leadership’s hidden agenda.
This is criminal! This violates Constitutional rights! This is wrong!
