Save the VUW Campus for the Karori Community

Save the VUW Campus for the Karori Community
The issue
We call on Victoria University and the Wellington City Council to work together to ensure the vital public uses and facilities of the Karori Campus remain available to the local community should Victoria University sell the campus to a private owner.
The Victoria University (VUW) Karori Campus ('Teachers College') is a crucial community asset, used by thousands of Karori citizens every year since it was built in 1970.
If VUW sells the land to a developer, Karori will lose:
· 6 Netball Courts used for hundreds of netball games each season
· 6 Tennis Courts
· A gymnasium that has hosted Taekwondo lessons for over 30 years, a Kendo club, basketball players, football players (plus many other uses)
· Karori's only marae
· A dance studio that has held thousands of dance lessons
· A great collection of intimate green spaces
· A 400 seat auditorium that has hosted numerous public meetings, school & cultural performances
But most importantly Karori will lose one of its last vibrant community spaces and the opportunity for Karori families and youths to take up sporting and recreational interests that keep them fit, and the community safe.
Karori can not afford to lose this amazing community asset!
