Save the Virginia Inn!

The Issue

The Virginia Inn is set to close this month after more than 120 years—because its owners and the Pike Place Market Preservation & Development Authority (PDA) couldn’t reach an agreement on lease terms.

That shouldn’t be how this story ends.

Opened in 1903, four years before the Market itself, the Virginia Inn has anchored First Avenue through every chapter of Seattle’s history. It’s been a steady, reliable presence downtown— tourists passing through, neighbors who live nearby, downtown workers grabbing lunch or a drink after work, and families out for brunch.

These are the kinds of businesses Seattle needs downtown—accessible and deeply tied to the community. When they disappear, they don’t come back.
