Over 300,000 Signatures in 1 week - simply amazing! Thank you to everyone who has signed and continues to show support for the USPS!
Here is some information I found out this past week that you may find interesting:
1. Why is the USPS in financial trouble?
Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006
"...the PAEA gave the Postal Service new accounting and funding rules for its retiree pension and health benefits. Up until 2006, the USPS funded those obligations on a pay-as-you-go-basis, pulling out of its pension fund and adding to it as retirees' costs came in. But the PAEA required the Postal Service to calculate all of its likely pension costs over the next 75 years, and then sock away enough money between 2007 and 2016 to cover most of them."
2. H.R.2382 — 116th Congress (2019-2020) #HR2382 <- Passing this Bill could help significantly
Bill passed by the House that repeals the requirement that the U.S. Postal Service annually prepay future retirement health benefits.
After you research HR 2382, if you agree with it, contact your Elected Officials to voice your support.
Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General. To the let the Post Office fail, which is spelled out in Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution, would be to let one of America's oldest and most prized institutions fail.
Leaving our veterans and postal workers high and dry when they have been there for us day in, day out, year after year is not an option. Even though we may not always see them, postal workers are the foundation of our communication with one another. The USPS is entrenched into the very fabric of our society.
We must do what we can to save the USPS!
