Save the University of Bradford Nursery from Closure!
The Issue
We, a group of parents with children attending the University of Bradford Nursery, are urgently calling on the University of Bradford to reconsider its decision to close the on-campus nursery- a decision that has profound implications not just for the university community but also for the wider local community.
Why is this important?
The University of Bradford has announced plans to close its on-campus nursery as part of cost-cutting measures. This facility is crucial for the early childhood education of many children and supports the academic and professional lives of university students and staff. Currently, the nursery serves children of 34% student parents and 16% staff parents, with the remaining 50% being from the local community.
The closure of the nursery will force numerous families to find alternative childcare solutions, which are often less affordable and convenient, posing significant challenges to the work-life balance of parents and potentially disrupting their careers or studies. This decision not only affects the well-being of these families but also tarnishes the university’s reputation as a supportive environment for working adults and students with families.
Moreover, this closure comes at a time when the university is already facing criticism for other cost-cutting measures, such as course closures and redundancies, further questioning the leadership's commitment to the university’s long-term vision and community.
What are we asking for?
Reconsideration of Closure
We urge the university to reconsider the decision to close the nursery and to look for alternative financial strategies that keep this essential service running.
Transparency in Decision-Making
We are asking for greater transparency in how such critical decisions are made, ensuring they consider long-term economic and social impacts, not just immediate financial savings.
Join us in our fight to keep the University of Bradford Nursery open. This is not just about a budget line; it’s about our children’s futures and the well-being of our community.
Sign this petition to show your support and demand action. Let’s ensure our voices are heard and that the university leadership acts in the best interests of its community.
