Save the UNCW Physics Department!

The elimination of the UNC-Wilmington Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography represents a severe imbalance of budget allocation by North Carolina Legislature. The budget cuts imposed on the UNC System have forced the UNCW Administration to make this difficult decision.  The priorities of UNCW should be lead by academic advancement first and foremost.

The plan proposes the merger of Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography and the Department of Geology and Geography into a single department.

This plan to remove the administrative power and representation of the Physics Dept. is the opposite of academic advancement and is detrimental to the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography, the Department of Geology and Geography, and the entire UNCW community.

The problem arises from the 15.8% budget cut imposed on UNCW. This budget cut comes all the way from North Carolina's Legislation.  In order for us to really make  a difference we need to show North Carolina how important education is. You can start by signing this petition to raise awareness about how detrimental these budget cuts are to students across the state.  This petition is just the beginning, a gateway to changing the future of education in NC.

The full story about the merger is available at http://www.uncw.edu/phy/physicsmerger.html
