Reinstate funding and support for the Tufnell Park Childminders' Centre

The Tufnell Park Childminders’ Centre, which has provided support for hundreds of the borough’s childminders and their mindees over the last 35 years, is set to close soon, following a decision by Islington Council to withdraw the Centre’s funding.

The Centre, which is based in Whittington Park, gives children the benefit of access to a nursery environment alongside home-based care from their minder, and provides Islington childminders with a much needed opportunity to network with their peers, keep up to speed on best practice in childcare and education, and to get support on how to run their business effectively.

The Council have given the group notice that their funding will be withdrawn at the end of March, with no justification and no consultation. The group face eviction from their premises, and will be forced to make their dedicated play-leader redundant after 20 years in the post.

We cannot afford for this crucial local resource to be lost; facilities for childminders at other locations across the Borough are woefully inadequate, and closing the TP Centre will be detrimental to both the minders and the children they work so hard to care for.

Please show your support for the Centre by signing our petition, and preserve this vital resource for the next generation of Islington's children. Thank you.
