Save the trees of Oklahoma Street!

The Issue

The Oklahoma Street community is saddened and frustrated about the possible removal of at least 41 healthy trees for the purpose of road construction. There was a city council meeting on the 21st of July. According to individuals who attended the meeting, the council seemed bored and dismissive, adding to our outrage. WBAY News Coverage of the council meeting

With the trees gone, we are worried about the aesthetics of our neighborhood, keeping our street cool, and of course, environmental and wildlife concerns for our community. Tons of wildlife in our neighborhood will have their lives uprooted—the wildlife on our street is part of what makes it so beautiful. The squirrels and the birds are part of our community too! Without the trees, the wildlife, and the beautiful shadows the trees overcast, our street will look bland, hot, and lifeless. The trees keep us cool in hot Wisconsin summers, and they keep our homes cool as well! These trees conserve energy by reducing the need for air conditioning by up to 50%. I urge you to do some research on the benefits of trees, or just check out this site for some quick facts: Tree People: 22 Benefits of Trees

These trees have been around for much longer than I can remember. I grew up with these trees. They are HEALTHY. There is nothing wrong with them, besides the fact that their removal would make construction easier.

We are urgently asking for the reconsideration of this project. Our road does need some work done BUT we would like to ask our council to vote in a way that will help preserve our trees! We need immediate action, as our city council votes on the issue on August 11th 2025!
