Save the trees in Southcliff Gardens, Scarborough

The Issue

Help stop Scarborough and Whitby Council from cutting down any more trees in Scarborough’s Southcliff Gardens by signing this petition. Let the council’s ‘Saving Southcliff Gardens’ project use the money to improve access, facilities and planting in Southcliff Gardens but not to cut down our beautiful trees!

Southcliff Gardens in Scarborough is lucky to be home to a variety of well established trees. Residents, visitors and wildlife have been able to enjoy the benefits of these wonderful trees up until November 2019 when an extensive programme of tree cutting began as part of ‘Saving Southcliff Gardens’ project by Scarborough and Whitby Council. Whilst it may be necessary to remove some trees for safety reasons or those that are diseased and consider thinning some of the remaining trees, the extensive tree cutting programme that is in progress has caused shock, distress and confusion to those of us who were unaware this was planned to take place. Now we know this is happening, we must let the council know this is not what we want!

Too many long standing beautiful trees have already been cut down. There is no going back from this, once they are gone they are gone for good. The 'Tree Works', which the tree cutting process is being referred to, is scheduled to continue until March 2020. To stop any more trees being cut down please show your support and sign this petition. We need trees for the environment, for wildlife and for our mental well-being. We are very lucky to have these trees in Southcliff Gardens, let’s fight to keep them so residents, visitors, wildlife and future generations can continue enjoy them. Let’s act now before it’s too late!
