Algonquin College is planning to suspend the in-person Technical Writer Program, a decision that would undermine Ottawa’s skilled workforce. Your support can help ensure it continues.

For 41 years, this program has been a cornerstone of Ottawa’s growth, producing skilled professionals who support industries across the region.

This program is:

• Profitable, cost-effective, and highly successful, with a proven track record spanning four decades.
• A provider of job-ready talent through its renowned co-op program, connecting students with businesses that depend on their expertise.

The economic benefits are clear:

• Government incentives like the Canada Summer Jobs program and Ontario’s Co-op Tax Credit make hiring co-op students more affordable, fueling business growth and innovation.
• Tech writer co-op students fill critical roles, improving productivity and supporting major projects across diverse industries.

Suspending this program would harm both Algonquin College and Ottawa’s economy.

We urge the Algonquin College Board of Governors, led by Chair James G. McCracken, to take immediate action to preserve the co-op program.

Eliminating it would not only jeopardize future graduates but also weaken Ottawa’s reputation as a hub for technical writing, instructional design, and communications professionals—with lasting consequences for local businesses and the broader workforce.
