Save the stranded animals at Marineland Antibes
The Issue
Growing up, I developed a deep admiration for the natural world and its inhabitants. Animals have always held a special place in my heart, and I cannot bear the thought of them abandoned, living their last days to starve in distressing conditions. Knowing the situation at Marineland Antibes in France has moved me profoundly, and I am compelled to act.
Marineland Antibes, located on the French Riviera, has been home to various marine animals, including dolphins, orcas, sea lions, and more. While aquariums and marine parks can play a role in conservation and education, the facilities at Marineland Antibes were permanently closed. They did not relocate the animals, but instead left them in unkempt enclosures, where they are have zero stimulation, and are literally starving to death.
The plight of these intelligent and social creatures, forced to spend their lives in confined spaces where they suffer from starvation, fear, and abandonment is appalling. This looks very bad for France as well. I’m sure they don’t want to be recognized at a country that cruelly abandons intelligent and feeling creatures to rot.
It's time to take action for these stranded animals. The current situation at Marineland Antibes is not sustainable, nor is it ethical. These animals have been left to suffer and die. We urge the authorities and stakeholders involved to reconsider the facilities and envision a comprehensive plan that prioritizes the well-being of these animals.
This can include restructuring or expanding their enclosures, providing enrichment activities that simulate their natural behaviors, improving water quality, and, where possible, transitioning animals to suitable sanctuaries. Collaborating with animal welfare organizations can provide valuable insights and support in finding new homes for these dear creatures.
Join us in urging France to relocate and transition these magnificent creatures to responsible sanctuaries where they can live fulfilling lives. Every signature counts and signifies a collective demand for ethical treatment of animals.
