Our beloved State Library of Victoria is under threat.

Proposed budget cuts will decimate the number of reference librarians from 25 to only 10. 

There will be no more children’s and family engagement officers.

The number of computers available to the public will be massively reduced.

Four full-time collections staff will be axed, as well as three library officers.

These cuts will gut this Melbourne and Australian icon, an institution which has stood proudly for over 170 years and been open to all - rich or poor - offering its services free of charge.

The State Library of Victoria is the third most popular library in the world. 2.8 million people visit the library every year and 4.5 million visit online.
