Since 1995, the St. Paul Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit has been building positive police relations with the community, providing crowd control during events in the city, and assisting in crime prevention through neighborhood patrol. On February 13th, 2019 the St. Paul Police Department announced that the Mounted Patrol Unit would be cut from the Department. Losing the Mounted Unit would be taking away a valuable community engagement tool in a time where it is more important than ever to build the community’s trust in the police.
