The Spot is a vibrant part of Randwick, NSW, Australia, renowned for its diverse range of shops, services, and cultural offerings. These businesses cater to locals and visitors by providing essential goods and services beyond culinary experiences.

Randwick Council is planning to remove 22 parking spaces in the immediate area via The Spot Streetscape Upgrade. With the removal of these parking spaces, our elderly and less-mobile residents are being pushed out of the area as they won’t be able to easily access their favourite places in the Spot. Businesses such as boutiques, gyms, after-school activities, and local offices that add substantial value to our community, will experience a downturn, as accessibility will become a challenge for customers with tight schedules.

All current car parking spaces in the centre of The Spot are vital for residents and for small businesses whose customers rely on being able to park close by.

Consultation from the Randwick Council Project Team, the Traffic Engineers has been minimal at best, with most of it taking place over the holidays when local residents and business owners were away. 

The council officers’ recommendation is that Council proceed with the upgrades , even though many respondents are AGAINST the project in its current form.

In fact on Tuesday night 27th May, the majority of the Councillors agreed to the recommendation, however with the support of the Liberal Councillors a recession motion was passed. This means the recommendation is to be debated and considered again on the 17th June.  We still have a chance to make a difference.

Randwick has always been a supportive community that values collaboration and inclusiveness. We urge the Councillors to reconsider the removal of these parking spaces and seek a harmonious solution that will benefit everyone.
