Good morning everyone! What a week of opposition! You showed up in droves, filled the venues to capacity and made it abundantly clear that this large-scale hydro idea of Chugach Electric won't fly in our back yard! Despite all of the overwhelming evidence about the value of the Snow River Corridor and the abundantly clear opposition to the project, Chugach Electric continues vows to continue to push these dams forward in 2017, pledging financial support to study the exact same river phenomena and project hurdles that have already been studied in over 10 science-based reports. For those in attendance, I'm sure that you have the same fear that we do: that Chugach Electric is determined to push this "concept" through by trying to circumnavigate the "show stopping" hurdles that are presented to them and do only the bare minimum FERC requires. It is proven that Chugach Electric produces much more electricity than is required by its membership and just built a gas plant 4 years ago, yet they cite dwindling gas supply and uncertainties for pursuing this hideous idea. The lack of foresight and innovation causes us much concern as we are living in an era of unprecedented technological growth and breakthroughs that could easily solve any electric utility's problems. Clearly, the transmission problems we have on the Railbelt, coupled with the lack of cooperation among the Railbelt Utilities has led to massive inefficiencies and poor decision-making, ultimately costing Alaskans millions of dollars.
