The Slow Loris are critically endangered. They are trafficked from their natural habitats to be sold as exotic pets. Every individual taken from the wild further endangers their populations and damages their resilience to other threats such as deforestation, poaching, and superstitious malice against them. 

Slow lorises have a high rate of mortality in captivity. They are blatantly extorted for social media clicks across Instagram despite the platform prompting a "Protect Wildlife" banner when one searches for content of them. They are nocturnal, and as pets they are exposed to bright artificial white lights. They are fed cake and stuffed into absurd outfits for their owners to showcase. Their teeth are crudely ripped out by traffickers in order to render them harmless, but this means they will never be able to survive in the wild again, and may die of infection if they do not receive medical attention. What is more, countless comments on these posts adore the animal in ignorance of cruel reality, some even asking "Where can I get one?". This fuels the demand that the illegal pet trade fulfills, and will lead to the extinction of the Slow Loris. 

Clearly, Instagram fails to enforce their espoused values through legitimate means of moderation. If we are to be decent, we must demand that Instagram act with accountability on this matter. If you agree, please, sign this petition, share it, and spread the word about THE TRUTH.
