Save The Shoreline

The Issue

Please help us save our beautiful shoreline!

The past years storms have decimated our most precious resource... our beach.  The barrier island has eroded our once wide, flat, sloped shoreline, to where there is as much as a twenty foot drop from the face of the now compromised dune, where ineffective sea walls used to be.  Years of neglect and greed for tax revenue has left our coast and its current inhabitants, animal and vegetable, vulnerable to these strong storms and rising tides. Vital habitats for endangered species have been lost, nearly century old buildings crumble, and families are displaced while they fight to hopefully recoup some of what mother nature has taken back. And what are the city and county doing?  They continue to let the tides wash away what's left of our dunes and scheme to approve some of the most large and ambitious condo and hotel developments on the east side of of A1A in the history of the city.

This petition calling on a Temporary Moratorium  on all new construction on the east side of A1A until a new coastline survey is completed.  Our beach has been designated "Critically Eroded"by the state and The Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) has not been re-evaluated in 30 years.  Habitats and nesting areas for endangered species are being destroyed. Infrastructure is in danger and many current buildings are already dangerously close to being swallowed up by the Atlantic Ocean despite the now absent seawalls that were supposed to protect them and the rest of our island.

We need to let the city and county know that the preservation of our most precious resource should be their first priority.

I am being told that Change.Org is asking for "Donations to get this on the Agenda".  That is not me.  This is purely signatures.  I am not raising money. Do Not donate to this petition.
