We are calling for an immediate STOP to the Roosevelt Island Steam Plant demolition.
This is being labeled an “emergency” — but there has been:
- No fire. No collapse. No catastrophic event.
- No structural report released
- No environmental data disclosed
Instead, we are seeing something deeply concerning:
- A building that was allowed to deteriorate,
- Violations that were not addressed,
- And now an “emergency” used to justify demolition without transparency or due process.
Key Questions
- Where is the structural engineering report?
- Where are the asbestos, lead, environmental test results and Community Protection Plans?
- Why was there no feasibility study for adaptive reuse?
If this is truly an emergency:
SHOW THE DATA.

Bottom Line
This is not just about one building.
It’s about whether public agencies can:
- Withhold critical information
- Bypass environmental safeguards
- And move forward without community consent
Stop the demolition. Release the reports. Let the public be heard.
