Hi to all members of the East Barnet community!

Following the Christmas and New Year break the exciting news is that POW owners Heartwood Collection have told me they plan to re-open in May this year provided all the work on the site has been completed. The attractive image above is the proposed interior look and the overall design theme of the pub.

You have probably seen the barriers around the pub but work is going on at the back on a new dining area. Local resident Rob Persad who lives in Jackson Road and I went to visit a sister Heartwood pub The Royal Forest which recently opened in Epping Forest on the same lines as POW and were impressed by the renovation of the bar and restaurant there. We were also careful to check the price of a pint of beer which was about £5 so hopefully within reach of local residents and potential customers! This has been a long road but we are nearly there thanks to support from the East Barnet Residents Association, Chipping Barnet MP Dan Tomlinson and my fellow East Barnet councillors Simon Radford and Edith David.

Below is an update from Richard Ferrier, Heartwood CEO on the progress of the work:

"We are incredibly excited to be opening and are delighted to now be on site. Our design for the pub will retain the character and warmth that has made it such a hub of the community for so long. We are also creating a new dining room that we hope will bring the local people of East Barnet together. We would also like to thank everyone for their patience as a project of this scale naturally takes time to get going. We hope to open the pub in May which we are really looking forward to and hope you will all join us."

Thanks for your patience and further updates will follow.

Cllr Phil Cohen
