HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!
The tremendous news is that Stonegate has sold the Prince of Wales pub to an award-winning hospitality group Heartwood Collection who have told us they recognise its value to the East Barnet community and will re-open it as a pub and brasserie following a major refurbishment. That means that all our campaigning as your three East Barnet councillors and the residents association have paid off!
You can see from the press release below that Heartwood owns 22 pubs and 14 Brasserie Blanc restaurants. The sale was only finalised today (Friday 22 March) and the new owners wanted to rush out a statement knowing that we were passionate about saving the Prince of Wales. In it they make clear they want the pub to remain a hub for the local community for years to come.
Heartwood told us they heard very clearly the wishes of East Barnet residents to keep a pub on that historic site and they will be happy to meet us further down the line to talk about their plans and what residents want from the refurbished pub. The campaign was fully backed by Dan Tomlinson the prospective parliamentary candidate for Labour and by Barnet council who were quick to declare the POW an asset of community value.
Again thankyou for your support and we will be in touch soon when we hear more from Heartwood about their plans.
HEARTWOOD COLLECTION ACQUIRES THE PRINCE OF WALES, EAST BARNET - OPENING
WINTER 2024
Heartwood Collection, the leading UK hospitality group backed by Alchemy Partners, has
acquired The Prince of Wales, East Barnet. Following the acquisition of the pub Heartwood
Collection remains on track to grow to over 60 inns and brasseries by June 2027.
The Prince of Wales is an historic pub (first opening in 1876) in the centre of East Barnet
village. As the village’s last remaining pub, Heartwood Inns will be undertaking a
multi-million pound refurbishment to ensure it remains at the heart of the local community
for many years to come.
The refurbishment will mean the enhancement of a large welcoming bar and dining room
with a combined capacity of 150 covers. Outside, the space will be transformed to create a
terrace for up to 55 covers.
Guests will be able to enjoy Heartwood’s seasonally-changing menu which is developed in
line with the Group’s ethos for delivering sustainable, fresh food. This sits neatly alongside a
carefully selected wine list, cask ales, beers and cocktails.
Heartwood has the highest possible rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association
(Three stars) and also recently won ‘Best Food-Led Pub Group 2023’ at the Restaurant
Magazine’s Awards
The acquisition of the pub follows the recent news that Heartwood Inns had acquired The
Royal Forest in Epping Forest. With 28 bedrooms, The Royal Forest is scheduled to open in
the autumn and will take the Group’s room offering to over 175 rooms by the end of 2024.
Richard Ferrier, CEO, Heartwood Collection, said:
“I am delighted that we have been able to acquire what is clearly a much-loved local at the
heart of East Barnet village. We will now embark on an ambitious development for the pub to
ensure that The Prince of Wales remains a hub for the local community for years to come. We
can’t wait to get going!”
