The Issue

Demand for Responsible Utility Infrastructure Placement at 25 N Eckar Street

We, the undersigned residents of Irvington and concerned citizens, formally petition for an immediate work stoppage and remediation of the utility pole recently installed at 25 N Eckar Street. This property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a vital contributing asset to the Irvington Historic District.

The current installation, executed without advanced notification, significantly obstructs the primary sightline of this historic home and degrades the architectural integrity of our streetscape, as well as the ability to enjoy our home. We demand that Con Edison and its contractors:

  • Halt all transfers of secondary utility lines to the new pole immediately.
  • Remove the current pole which was placed three feet away from the original footprint.
  • Perform a "set in old hole" replacement to restore the original sightlines and preserve the historic character of N Eckar Street.

Our community's historic character and property values depend on transparency and adherence to preservation standards. We also urge our representatives to intervene and protect our neighborhood's heritage.
