Good afternoon.  Some important things to know:

1) The move towards demolition is ongoing, with the school board just waiting for permits.

2) The Board of Supervisors meets on September 22nd to discuss the permit request. The Planning Commission will recommend (on a 3-2 vote) that they approve the permit for demolition.

3) Now is the time for you to make your voice heard-- clearly and often.

4) The online petition now exceeds 900 signatures, and there are paper petitions circulating, as well. We are likely above 1,000 signatures at this point-- people asking to stop the intended demolition of the selected buildings in the Pocahontas complex.

5) The photograph included with this message is one page of a flyer available for circulation. We have two. They convey important information about which the public is still largely unaware. One explains the overall challenge and provides a call to action. The other explains the historical significance of the complex and the fiscal concerns about what is happening. You can download the flyers starting tomorrow. You may write us to request copies by email immediately.

We may share some comments anonymously if we are not able to contact you beforehand, but we will be careful to avoid identifying anyone unless we have the okay first.

9) The Powhatan School Board meets for its regular, monthly session this Tuesday, September 9, at 6pm at the Landmark Center at 4290 Anderson Highway. The Pocahontas issue is not on the agenda, but there is a public comment period at 5A in the agenda, should you wish to attend and speak. The board has already voted (3-2) to proceed with demolition, so your comments may not impact any actual vote, moving forward.
