Save the Pleasanton Library!

Save the Pleasanton Library!
The Issue
The Pleasanton library is a shining gem, adored by students, children, parents. Every day without fail, it's halls are filled with learning, laughter, and graciousness. However, it is threatened right now with sweeping budget cuts: the city council is proposing significant reductions to hours, free materials, programs, and staff.
The council's recommendation includes:
- closing completely for Sundays
- 23% reduction in hours: opening at 11AM and closing at 7PM
- 50% reduction to provided print and digital materials
- staff cuts that will force programs cuts and longer waits
As someone who has grown up with the library, I've seen the positive impact that it creates: summer reading programs nurturing young children, ESL programs providing essential training to adults. All of these programs are at risk. Personally, I know countless high school and college students, myself included, that rely on the library’s community and study space.
If these budget cuts go through, the library’s impact will be dramatically hamstrung. Thousands of people will lose access to genuinely enriching opportunities—things that are far too rare in our world today. The library does so much good. Please help it continue to.
