First of all thank you to everyone who supported this petition to save The Penis Woodland!
I've been in contact with the shepherd who was in charge of the day-to-day running of the farm, and he informed me that it will be getting cut down either this year or next, but because it is classed as an ancient woodland they must plant it back exactly how it was, so this member will res'erect' and grow back to its former bushy beautifulness.
"We feel for the safe keeping of the wood itself it has to be done sooner rather than later as the damage will get worse and it will look nothing like a 'T' in a few years if we don't. We plan to get it back to its former glory ASAP. This is not for any financial gain, once-replanted and fenced it will probably leave a loss."
"There's a lots of trees down which will be rotting and a lot that are still standing are dying swell. We've sorted these things before but eventually comes a time where you need to cut your losses and completely fell it and start again. If you want it to have any chance of staying the shape it is for hundreds of years to come it's the only way to do it.
The trees that are healthy are a fair height and now that there is so much space for wind to get at them by the time you planted more and the time it takes them to grow the big trees would be down on top of them in the next storm".
I offered the use of this petition to them, and hoped to maybe raise some money to help replant it or possibly for charity (Manscaped could sponsor the wood for example) but the landowner wished to proceed without any fuss or hassle.
Alongside this social media account (@thefamoustreeguy), I have also recently launched a new business, The Famous Tree Company, where we grow and sell saplings from famous and iconic trees. Given how popular this woodland is, I suggested offering "Penis Woodland Saplings" - spruce trees grown from this generation of the woodland, of which the proceeds would help with replanting.
But unfortunately it is not to be, and this autumn will likely be the last chance we could harvest any seeds. 😢
If you would definitely be interested in purchasing a 'penis tree sapling' for £75 with 30% going directly to replanting costs, and any excess used to plant extra trees, please contact us here and we can hopefully change the landowners mind!
So it's bad news for the immediate future, but good news for the long term, and please respect the landowners decisions.
