Save the Peckwater Centre Primary Care Site and Listening Space Garden
The Issue
As members of the Caversham Group Practice Patients' Participation Group, we are deeply concerned about the proposed changes to our local healthcare facilities. The Peckwater Centre, a purpose-built primary care hub in Camden Town, is under threat. Current plans for redevelopment of St Pancras Hospital site include moving community services out of this centre to accommodate a secondary care dialysis unit.
The Peckwater Centre currently provides vital services such as Memory Service and Wheelchair Service. These essential services cater to our community's needs and the current plans for relocation will reduce capacity and disrupt access for many residents.
Also, we fear that this redevelopment will impact our beloved Caversham's Listening Space Garden. This therapeutic space was developed by the social prescribing unit at our practice and has become an oasis for many patients and local residents.
We need answers - where will our community services be relocated too and will those site(s) be able to maintain existing capacity and grow them in line with residents needs?
How long will this construction take? and what disruption will patients experience? How will those with special access needs be supported during this time?
What other sites have been considered and what cost/benefit analysis has taken place?
What will happen to The Listening Space Garden? Will it be dug up and lost?
We urge NHS Property and North Central London Integrated Care Board to reconsider these plans, consult in a meaningful way with us the community and provide clear communication on how these concerns will be addressed. Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving local healthcare services and protecting therapeutic spaces like Caversham’s Listening Space Garden.
