Save the peacocks on Benidorm Island
This petition had 548 supporters
I am currently on holiday in Benidorm and today went on a boat trip to Benidorm Island, a small area about 3.5km away from the shore. Expecting to see peacocks and wildlife living freely on the island, I am disgusted and extremely saddened to say that upon arrival I saw 6 adult peacocks (4 male, two hens) along with a baby peacock in a very small enclosure, with hardly any shade to protect them from the sun, and little water.
This is unacceptable, and after speaking to fellow island visitors it is clear that it wasn't just me who felt shocked, you can also just look at the Trip Advisor comments that mention the peacocks to see that tourists do not want to see these birds in such a state. These poor birds look distressed, and look like they have been picking at their tail feathers as a result.
I want to draw attention to their treatment with the view to them either being released into an appropriate environment, or rescued and rehomed by a suitable sanctuary where they can properly be looked after and cared for.
At a cost of 15 euros per person to be taken to the island, I am astounded that the peacock enclosure is in such a poor state. Please sign the petition and help me try and save these beautiful birds so they can live out their days properly. If anyone has any Spanish contacts in the vegan/animal welfare sectors please do let me know and share my post. Thank you!
