Why this petition matters

The Pavilion Theatre Glasgow is Glasgow's last independent variety theatre and has been entertaining theatre goers since it opened in 1904.

Since the 1970's the theatre has been ran by Iain Gordon as general manager and in latter years has become a family run theatre.

Glasgow is at risk of losing the last independent family run theatre to ATG (Ambassadors Theatre Group) who currently run the King's and Theatre Royal.

We are appealing to Glasgow City Council to intervene and block the sale of the last independent theatre to such a big corporate company who will then have the strong hold over the majority of Glasgow theatres.

If the theatre goes to ATG shows and ticket prices will change drastically, the draw of the Pavilion has always been it's family run element and affordable tickets, brining theatre to a wider audience.

The Glasgow pavilion is not just affordable to many families but also greatly supports independent productions and utilises the wealth of Scottish talent both on and off stage.

The Pavilion pantos are renowned for being traditional Scottish pantos and are all cast with local talent.

ATG outsource all of their productions which would see an end to the shows that Glasgow audiences have grown to know and love at the Pavilion.

Theatre should never be an elitist luxury for those who can afford to pay London prices in a local setting, keeping the Glasgow pavilion Independent will ensure that Glasgow still has one theatre that caters for everyone.
