Removing European Beachgrass, stopping the damage and restoring the natural environment of the Oregon coast is possible. The Lanphere Dunes in Northern California is a prime example. There, starting in 1992, the Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service started a project that has now restored the natural environment. Since then, the National Park Service, Army Corps of Engineers and the State of California have recognized the danger and removed the invasive species. Learn more about these efforts by visiting: Friends of the Dunes*. https://www.friendsofthedunes.org
Despite state and municipality funded studies in Oregon that note the dangers and suggest remedies, our state still allows the planting of European Beachgrass and has failed to take action to stop further damage.
With more than 1,360 signatures seeking the banning of European Beachgrass in Oregon, we are making progress, but we need more people to show their support!
Share the petition with your family, friends, neighbors and anyone who wants to protect and preserve Oregon’s coastline!
