Save the Orcas in Captivity Around the World, Free Them or Stop Breeding into Captivity

The issue

Orcas have been held in captivity since 1961, and it’s time to make a change. Studies have shown that Orcas need a lot of space to live happily, and no matter how large the tank is that is provided, it will never be enough. Orcas are also pod animals, meaning that they build tight bonds with other Orcas. Keeping the Orcas in captivity prevents them from making these bonds, as they are usually only placed with little to no other Orcas. Naomi Rose, a marine mammal scientist at the Animal Welfare Institute, states that Orcas cannot thrive in captivity. This means that life being held in a tank is not, and will never be, the best option for Orcas. 166 Orcas have been captured and put in tanks, separated from their family and forced to do shows. 52 remain in captivity as of October 4th 2022, 27 of these captured from the wild and 29 born into captivity. We can change this. We can stop Orcas from being captured from the wild. The aim of this petition is for data to be taken to parliament, where a new law can be created and voted for internationally, about not breeding Orcas in captivity, and not stealing them from their happy home in the wild. But I can’t do this alone, I need your help.
