Lifeforce recommended that actions under an Emergency Order for Species At Risk include increased protection against boat traffic. Lifeforce has been on the water since 1993 with our Boater Education Program. Just like us, marine animals need space to find food, raise young, socialize, and rest. When boats get too close, approach too fast, or make too much noise, they disrupt these activities, causing the Orcas unnecessary stress. In some cases, boats have even hit them. Our work has led to warnings and fines for the people harassing ocean wildlife. Just this week, we were on the Salish Sea stopping boaters from getting too close to the Orca families we are petitioning to save.
