Save the Old Paper Company Building
Save the Old Paper Company Building
The Issue
We, the undersigned, respectfully petition the City of Gulfport to immediately halt all efforts to demolish the building located at 3019 15th Street.
This building has been standing since 1923 and historically operated as the Gulfport Paper Company, making it a long-standing and meaningful part of Gulfport’s commercial and architectural history.
In addition to its historical significance, the building currently contains asbestos, meaning demolition without proper abatement would not only violate state and federal environmental laws but also pose serious public health risks. Attempting to demolish the structure without completing proper asbestos inspection and removal would be unsafe, unlawful, and irresponsible.
Furthermore, this property is under consideration for historical designation, reinforcing its value as a landmark worth preserving for future generations. Demolishing this building would permanently erase a vital piece of Gulfport's heritage and undermine community efforts to honor and protect our city’s history.
We urge the City of Gulfport to immediately cease demolition plans, prioritize safe and lawful asbestos abatement, respect the property owner’s rights, and collaborate on preservation solutions that maintain both public safety and our shared historical legacy.
We stand together to protect the integrity, safety, and heritage of 3019 15th Street.
