We would like to thank you for signing the petition. We are at a critical juncture. If we raise $13,000 more, we can hire an experienced environmental attorney who has been waiting in the wings and who has promised to represent us for a reduced rate. Please go to the donation button on our website: https://www.davis-meeker-oak.org/
Although the mayor agreed to get a second risk assessment of the tree, all evidence indicates this will not result in a favorable outcome for the tree. The process appears predetermined.
The second risk assessment has not been done, and yet she told the Olympian on June 12 that there would be a memorial there but there would not be a tree there. https://www.davis-meeker-oak.org/post/city-arborist-says-tree-is-not-high-risk
The mayor has a contract for the second risk assessment and will likely present it to the city council on July 2nd. Things will move pretty quickly after that.
If you prefer to donate to a 501(c)(3), we are in the process of obtaining fiscal sponsorship from a nonprofit. Please contact us if you are interested in donating only once that is in place.
If you want to help another way, please contact the Tumwater City Council and tell it to pass an emergency ordinance requiring the mayor to get: (1) a Level 3 risk assessment utilizing sonic tomography throughout the aerial portion of the canopy and at the base and utilizing a resistograph where warranted; (2) a permit from the state department of archaeology; (3) a waiver from the Tumwater Historical Commission, and (4) a consensus of three arborists saying removal is necessary and that pruning and/or cabling would not be recommended.
Here is the email that goes to all council members: Council@ci.tumwater.wa.us , and here is the council's phone number: (360) 754-5855
Thank you again for your support in fighting for this special tree's life. Together we are making a difference!
