Save The Old King's Head, Kirton

The Issue

We wish to express our deep concern regarding the proposed closure of the cafe and events offering at The Old King’s Head in Kirton, effectively disconnecting it from the local community.

Historical Significance: The Old King’s Head is a vital link to Kirton's past. Preserving this link is crucial for maintaining the historical fabric of our town and for educating future generations about our heritage.

Community Value: Beyond its historical importance, The Old King’s Head has been a hub for community activities, fostering social cohesion and most recently providing an events space. Closing the cafe and events spaces would deprive the community of a valuable gathering place.

Call for Consultation: We urge Heritage Lincolnshire to reconsider the decision to close The Old King’s Head and instead engage in a collaborative effort with the local community to explore ways to continue operating the cafe, and also finding alternative uses for the building to increase revenue. By working together, we can find innovative solutions that respect the building’s heritage while ensuring it remains a vibrant part of our community.

Possible Solutions:

Community hub: Transforming the building into a community hub that hosts events, workshops, and exhibitions.
Alternative working venue: Establishing a dedicated area for individuals to work, offering a viable option to working from home.
Cultural venue: Using the space for cultural activities such as arts exhibitions.

We believe that with the right support and collaboration, The Old King’s Head can continue to serve as a cornerstone of our community, preserving its historical significance while adapting to contemporary needs.

We respectfully request that Heritage Lincolnshire keep The Old King's Head open whilst engaging with us to explore these possibilities and work towards a solution that benefits both the building and the community it serves.
