On July 10, the Northport City Council is going to try to overturn the resolution that protects ALL the parks and community centers in Northport. We need to let them know that if this resolution is overturned, we will lose any faith we have left in them. If they try to overturn the resolution, we will let you know how you can contribute to a legal fund so we can try to stop them legally from selling the community center and park. We’ve been consulting with lawyers and we feel this might be the only way to save the community center. If we raise funds for lawyer fees and we do not need it for legal fees, we will use the funds to improve the playground and community center. Let’s all hope we can use the funds for the playground!
We are not backing down! Northport’s “progress” will not come to a screeching halt if they do not sell the property that the Northport Community Center and park stands on. The only people who benefit from this sale is Beeker, who already own the apartment complex behind the playground.
It is time for the Northport City Council to respect the wishes of the community and not care more about developers than for their citizens who live and vote in Northport. It’s time for the Northport City Council to care about the tens of thousands of children, senior citizens and hardworking families that use the community center and park every year. This community will be devastated if the community center is taken away. The Northport City Council is attempting to destroy something that is vital to so many in the community. It is wrong. Please contact them and let them know you do not want it destroyed.
