Thank you for backing our campaign to protect Wavertree Playground (The Mystery).

After meeting with United Utilities (UU) and Paula Barker MP, we have serious new concerns:

⚠️ Key Updates

• UU admit the works will not fix flooding in The Mystery, and they also do not know if it will solve flooding on Queen’s Drive.
• The project will bring 2+ years of disruption and permanent changes to our park.
• UU were not aware of existing culverts and brooks in the park, raising serious concerns about how thoroughly they've investigated the suitability of the site
• Excavation site confirmed to be approx. 100ft across and 100ft deep, creating 8,000 lorry loads worth of spoil

🚧 Planned Permanent Changes

• New access road from Grant Avenue.
• Fenced compound with a 3m high kiosk and 5m vent pipe - this requires planning permission, which we plan to oppose. 
• Concrete ‘grasscrete’ surface over an area the size of two basketball courts, removing green playing space.
• Wildflower meadow and wildlife habitats at risk of destruction.
• Permanent landscape changes due to spoil being kept on site

We demand that if works go ahead, UU must:

• Use an existing access route instead of cutting a new one.
• Offer proactive home safety surveys.
• Provide a community fund to offset lost green space.
