Save the Music Mania Murals – Keep Art Alive in Downtown Hemet
The Issue
At 135 E Florida Ave in Downtown Hemet, the walls of Music Mania have become a canvas that celebrates the soul of music and community. Painted by local artists Al and his daughter Alicia, these spray-paint murals feature legendary musicians like Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Nirvana, Daft Punk, Dolly Parton — and many more — alongside the Music Mania name itself.
These murals were created to uplift spirits, to remind people that everyone has a song inside them, and to bring color and creativity to a part of our city that needs more joy, not less.
Recently, Music Mania received notice from City Code Enforcement ordering the removal of the murals due to permit issues. We respect our city’s process, but we believe that public art should be encouraged, not erased.
We, the undersigned, ask the City of Hemet and Code Enforcement to:
1️⃣ Allow the murals to remain as they are while this matter is reviewed.
2️⃣ Grant retroactive permit approval so that these artworks can be officially recognized.
3️⃣ Collaborate with local artists and businesses to establish a fair, community-based mural/art ordinance for downtown Hemet that celebrates creativity instead of restricting it.
The Music Mania murals have already become a local landmark — people stop to take photos, talk about the artists, and feel inspired to create. Removing them would erase more than paint on a wall; it would erase part of our shared story.
Please stand with us to preserve this expression of music, color, and community pride in Downtown Hemet.
Sign and share to help us keep the Music Mania murals alive.
