Save the Montreal Technoparc wetlands and woods

The Issue

Français

This petition is in response to the possible development on the Montreal Technoparc wetlands, and woods. Medicom currently plans to build a mask factory on an area known as Monarch Fields – a breeding ground of the monarch butterfly, an endangered species. The Technoparc wetlands are one of the only unprotected and unfragmented greenspaces in Montreal. They are home to over 200 species of birds. Development in this area would negatively impact its biodiversity and would take away one of the few natural spaces available to Montreal citizens.

The preservation of natural spaces helps to preserve life on land in many ways. It mainly contributes to maintaining biodiversity by preserving natural habitats that would be destroyed because of deforestation or desertification. Protecting these areas also helps to slow the effects of climate change by providing a stable carbon sink. In turn, the fewer effects of climate change will allow various species to thrive, contributing to healthy and diversified ecosystems.

The protection of these 215 hectares of municipally and federally owned wetlands and woods would greatly benefit the citizens of Montreal as well as the biodiversity of this green space.

Confirmed victory
