The Issue

This is a petition asking Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and the LA City Council to reinstate funding to Save the CARE Mobile Shower and Bathroom Program for our Unhoused Angelenos

The New City of LA budget was passed last week without funding for LA Sanitation's CARE Mobile Hygiene Program which is operated by The Shower of Hope. Last year, The Shower of Hope served 37,407 Showers and Bathroom services using 8 mobile hygiene trailers but due to this budget cut, starting July 1st, 2025, these trailers will be sitting in a parking lot and Thousands of our Unhoused Angelenos will lose access to Showers and Bathrooms.

Homelessness today is different. There are many Working Angelenos who are homeless who come and take a shower from our trailers and go to work. There are many who take a shower to be able to be presentable for an interview. For these Angelenos, this is a literal denial from an interview and for those currently working, the likelihood of being let go.

The highest rising demographic within homelessness are Seniors. Also in this population are a majority who are suffering from Diabetes, High Blood pressure and other illnesses due to our broken healthcare system living with compromised immune systems.

Forced to live in unhygienic conditions and exposed to critical levels of smog and dust, access to showers is not a luxury but the difference between life and death. Access to bathrooms in one of the Richest cities of the World is one of the Most Basic Dignities and a Healthier Environment for us all.

Partnering with Amazing organizations like SELAH, NOHO HOME ALLIANCE, CHP LA, and others, these Angelenos have access to Meals, Clothing and above all, Case Management - a Permanent Path out of Homelessness.

Every Mobile Hygiene Trailer also Provides Clean Drinking Water as well as Hygiene Items for our Unhoused Angelenos to stay clean longer after a shower. These items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, lotion, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, feminine hygiene items and a range of other donations.

Right now, we are thankful for Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez who has passed a motion to try to find alternate funding. So please sign this petition, share it and call Mayor Bass and our local Councilmembers from the list below and please ask them to support the motion and restore the funding so that this program can continue without interruption on July 1st.

Our Angelenos Experiencing Homelessness Deserve Dignity and Health!

Thank you,
The Shower of Hope
