Save the Millenium Bridge Chewing Gum Art trail

The Issue

Since 2011, artist Ben Wilson has been creating trails of artwork from the northern end of millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern. Painting on discarded chewing gum, he transforms what has been spat out, into miniature works of art. Taking a thoughtless action and transforming it. He often takes requests from people to paint dedications, and his work has become internationally recognised. Engineering work is commencing on the bridge on the 14th of OCTOBER 2023, and Ben has been informed that they plan to deep clean the surface and remove all of the pictures in the process. We believe this is unnecessary, and as a compromise, a skeleton group of 100 of the pictures at a minimum should be saved. Symbolically, by saving the pictures, one is respecting the value of the artwork, and the social function it fulfils. We need art in our society. This is a  joyful form of art which has brought much pleasure and happiness to countless people.
